Holy Wednesday: When Ministry Looks Like Prayer More Than Platform
There’s no recorded sermon from Jesus on this day.
No parables.
No public miracles.
No big moments.
Just silence.
But maybe that’s the point.
After all the confrontation of Tuesday, Jesus didn’t rush to do more. He rested. He likely prayed. He stayed close to His disciples. And He stayed faithful—without the spotlight.
In the book of Colossians, Paul mentions a man named Epaphras.
He wasn’t famous.
He didn’t write Scripture.
But Paul honors him for this:
“He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.”
—Colossians 4:12
It’s easy to think that impact has to be loud.
But Epaphras reminds us that some of the most powerful ministry is quiet.
Praying.
Wrestling.
Staying faithful when no one’s watching.
Holy Wednesday reminds us of that too.
Jesus was still preparing.
Still carrying the weight of what was coming.
Still loving His disciples in the quiet.
And maybe you’re in a season like that.
You’re not on a stage.
You’re not getting applause.
But you’re showing up in prayer.
You’re standing in the gap.
You’re staying near to the people God’s put in your life.
And that matters.
Whether you’re a pastor praying for your people…
A parent praying for your child…
A friend praying for someone who doesn’t even know it…
You’re not doing nothing.
You’re doing Holy Wednesday work.
A Simple Prayer
Lord, thank You for reminding me that ministry isn’t always loud. That loving You and others sometimes looks like stillness and prayer. Help me stay faithful in the quiet places. And remind me that You see what others don’t.
Amen.
