The Sun Was Still There
This morning felt more like late February than mid-April.
The temperature said 34, but the wind made it feel like 24. Not exactly the kind of spring morning that invites you outside. Especially after a week that brought 80-degree highs, tornado sirens, and storm after storm.
But something caught my attention today.
For the first time in what felt like days, I saw the sun.
Not because it hadn’t been there.
But because I hadn’t been able to see it.
Between the clouds, the storms, and the chaos of the last week, it had been hidden.
Still shining. Still warming. Still faithful.
But out of view.
I was inside where it was warm, looking out the window. The sun was just starting to break through. Not harsh or blinding. Just soft light touching the edges of a new day.
And as I watched, I couldn’t help but think about how often life with God feels the same way.
There are seasons where storms come one after another.
Disappointment. Delay. Stress. Loss.
And it can feel like the sun has disappeared. Like God’s presence has gone quiet.
But just because you can’t see Him clearly doesn’t mean He’s not there.
I spent a little time this morning trying to find a Scripture that said what I was feeling. Of course, the go-to verse comes to mind—His mercies are new every morning. I love that truth. But I was looking for something that really conveyed the feeling of watching light break through after a long stretch of gray.
So I started searching. And then I came across these words:
“Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”
Now understand what was going on in this moment.
Micah is watching everything around him unravel.
There’s corruption, injustice, and betrayal. He’s not just sitting in darkness—he’s surrounded by it. The people he thought he could trust have failed him. The culture around him is collapsing. But in the middle of all of that, he declares something that rises above the chaos.
Here’s the full verse:
“Do not gloat over me, my enemies. For though I fall, I will rise again.
Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”
—Micah 7:8 (NLT)
That hit me.
I may not face the same enemies Micah did.
But we all have our own.
Sometimes the enemy is fear.
Or shame.
Or discouragement that settles in and tries to claim permanent space in our hearts.
Sometimes it's the weight of disappointment or just life not turning out the way we hoped.
And in those moments, I’ve felt like I was sitting in the dark.
Waiting.
Wondering.
Trying to remember what light even looks like.
And then, He shows up again.
Not because He ever left.
But because I finally got a glimpse through the clouds.
Sometimes the greatest encouragement isn’t found in a breakthrough.
It’s found in the quiet assurance that God hasn’t left. He’s been there the whole time. Steady. Present. Faithful.
And maybe this morning’s sun is your reminder too.
Even if you haven’t seen Him lately, even if it’s been storm after storm,
God never left. And the light is still breaking through.
A Simple Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You for reminding me that Your presence doesn’t disappear when life feels dark. Help me to look beyond the clouds and remember that You are still near, still faithful, still shining over my life. Even in the chill, even in the waiting, You are with me.
Amen.
