The Light You Carry Might Be for Someone Else
Yesterday morning, I stood inside and watched the sun finally break through.
After days of rain and storms, it wasn’t dramatic. Just a quiet glow stretching across the field. The kind of light you only notice when you’ve been missing it.
That moment stayed with me. But today, something different came to mind.
What if sometimes we are that light for someone else?
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
—Matthew 5:14 (NIV)
Jesus wasn’t just talking about preachers or public voices. He was talking to people who had simply decided to follow Him.
Sometimes we think our light has to be loud.
But most of the time, it’s not.
It looks like sitting with someone who’s going through it.
It looks like texting the person God keeps putting on your heart.
It looks like staying kind in a harsh world.
It looks like showing up when you could stay home.
It looks like being steady when someone else feels like falling apart.
You may not feel like you’re shining. But someone else might be looking to you right now and seeing hope.
And not because of who you are.
But because of who lives in you.
Light isn’t about volume. It’s about presence.
And if the storms in someone else’s life have blocked their view, you might be the first reminder they’ve had in a while that God hasn’t left.
Your smile might matter more than you know.
Your faithfulness might be making more of a difference than you can see.
Your ordinary Monday could be someone else’s glimpse of grace.
The light you carry matters. Even if it’s quiet.
Especially if it’s quiet.
You don’t have to fix everything today. But maybe you just show up. And let His light shine through you.
A Simple Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me to be a light in a world that often feels dark. Help me to carry Your presence with quiet confidence. Let my words, my actions, and even my presence reflect Your goodness today. If someone around me is struggling to see You, let the light in me gently point them back to You.
Amen.
