The Unfinished Work

In our hallway next to my office, there's a wall that's never been finished. It's only about four feet wide, and honestly, no one really sees it. When we moved into our house three years ago, I painted the whole place, but somehow, I missed that wall.

Three years later, it's still unfinished.

Every now and then, I notice it and think, I should really take care of that. But then I get busy, distracted, or just used to the way it is, and it stays the same.

And if I'm being honest, that's not the only "unfinished work" in my life.

We all have things we started but never completed. Maybe it's a book we planned to read, a goal we meant to reach, or a habit we wanted to build. Maybe it's something deeper—a prayer we stopped praying, a calling we started walking in but drifted away from, or an area where we know God is working, but we feel stuck.

God Doesn't Leave Things Unfinished

The good news? God doesn't leave things undone.

Philippians 1:6 says, "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

That means even when we feel like we've stalled out, even when we're struggling to see progress, God is still working.

We may feel like we're not where we're supposed to be yet, but that doesn't mean God has stopped the process. He doesn't give up. He doesn't get distracted or walk away from His work in us.

And unlike my half-painted wall, He finishes what He starts.

When You Feel Stuck

Maybe right now, you feel like an unfinished work. Perhaps you're waiting, wondering, or wrestling with the feeling that you should be further along than you are.

Let this be a reminder—God is still in the process of shaping you.

Just because you don't see the full picture yet doesn't mean He isn't moving. Just because you feel stuck doesn't mean He's done.

Even when we can’t see the progress, God is still moving. He’s still working behind the scenes, still shaping us, and still leading us forward.

Maybe you feel like you’re in a holding pattern, waiting for clarity or struggling to see the next step. But God hasn’t forgotten about you, and He hasn’t abandoned the work He started. What He begins, He finishes.

A Challenge for Today

Think about something in your life that feels unfinished. A dream you put on hold, a prayer you stopped praying, a step of faith you were once excited about but never followed through on.

Don’t let discouragement keep you stuck. Take a step—even a small one. Trust that God is still working, even in the waiting.

And who knows? Maybe today, I’ll finally get around to painting that wall.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for never leaving things unfinished. When I don’t see the progress, help me to trust the process. Give me the courage to take the next step, no matter how small, knowing that You will bring Your work in me to completion. Amen.
