How to Stay Faithful When Life Feels Ordinary

Some days are exciting. Some are challenging. But most of life falls somewhere in between. Routine, repetitive, even mundane.

It’s easy to stay motivated when something new is happening or when we feel God moving in big ways. But what about the seasons that feel slow? The ones where nothing significant seems to be happening?

This is where faithfulness is tested.

Finding Purpose in the Everyday

We often chase after the big moments, the spiritual highs, the breakthrough prayers, and the major life changes. But God does some of His most important work in the in-between.

Colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."

That means faithfulness isn’t just about what we do when life feels exciting. It’s about how we show up in the ordinary. How we pray when no one sees. How we serve when it feels unnoticed. How we obey when there’s no immediate reward.

It’s in these daily acts of faithfulness that a life of deep spiritual growth is built.

God is in the Ordinary Moments

Last night, we were invited over to a church member’s home. They had recently moved in and asked us to come and pray a blessing over their house. We gathered around the table for a wonderful meal, sharing stories of life, kids, and the goodness of God. We laughed, we connected, and then we moved into the living room to pray together.

It was nothing extravagant, just friends sharing a meal, yet there was something powerful in that moment. It reminded me that some of the most meaningful moments in life aren’t grand events, but simple, everyday acts of connection and faithfulness.

Think about something as ordinary as grocery shopping. Most of us see it as just another task on the list. But what if we looked at it differently?

What if we recognized the act of picking out fresh ingredients as a way to care for those we love? The meals we prepare as opportunities for community and conversation? The small, everyday tasks as moments of service that reflect God’s heart?

Most of life isn’t spent in grand spiritual moments. It is spent in the quiet, simple routines of everyday living. And yet, those moments can be just as holy when we see them through the lens of faithfulness.

The Danger of Chasing Big Moments

If we are always waiting for the next big moment, we risk missing God’s presence in the now.

Jesus spent years in obscurity before launching into public ministry. David was faithful as a shepherd before he was anointed as king. Moses spent decades in the wilderness before leading Israel.

The question isn’t, “When will my next big moment come?” The real question is, “Am I being faithful with what God has placed in front of me today?”

A Prayer for Faithfulness in the Ordinary

Lord, help me see the beauty of the everyday. Keep me from chasing only the big moments and missing the ways You are working in the small ones. Give me a heart that stays faithful, whether in excitement or routine. Teach me to see every task, every responsibility, and every interaction as an opportunity to honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
