Finding Strength in Rest: Trusting God When You’re Run Down

There’s a lot of sickness going around right now, and our household has not escaped it. It seems like it has been lingering, moving from one person to the next. While I have managed to avoid most of it, I may be dealing with a bit of a cough myself.

It’s frustrating to be slowed down when there’s so much to do. Responsibilities don’t pause just because we don’t feel our best. But sickness has a way of reminding us of something we often forget: We are not invincible.

We live in a fallen world where sickness and weakness are part of life. I’m not saying God caused this sickness, but I do know this: in every season, even the ones we wouldn’t choose, He is present, and He is faithful. He offers rest, renewal, and perspective, even when we’re not at our best. And while we trust Him in every season, we are also invited to pray for healing, knowing that Scripture reminds us of His care and power.

Psalm 23:2-3 says:
"He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul."

We often push ourselves too hard, trying to power through exhaustion or sickness. But God, in His wisdom, created our bodies to need rest. Slowing down is not weakness—it’s part of His design.

Three Things to Remember When You’re Run Down

1. Your body was made to rest.
God created rhythms of work and rest for a reason. It’s okay to take a step back, recover, and allow your body the time it needs to reset. Even Jesus withdrew from the crowds to recharge.

2. Your worth isn’t in your productivity.
It’s easy to feel guilty when we have to slow down, but our value isn’t based on how much we accomplish. Sometimes, being still is the most faithful thing we can do.

3. Trust that God is at work, even when you’re resting.
We tend to think everything depends on us, but the world keeps turning even when we take a break. God is still working, still leading, and still in control. And as we rest, we can also bring our needs before Him, praying for healing and trusting that He hears us.

A Promise to Hold Onto

Jeremiah 30:17“For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord.”

God sees what we need before we even ask. Whether healing comes quickly or over time, we can trust that He is with us, strengthening us, and bringing renewal.

A Prayer for Strength, Health, and Healing

Lord, when I feel run down, remind me that I don’t have to push past my limits. Teach me to rest well, to trust You in the slow seasons, and to find peace even when I can’t do everything I want to. I bring my need before You, asking for strength, health, and healing. Restore my body and my spirit, and help me to trust in Your timing. Thank You for Your faithfulness and care in every season. Amen.
