God is For You – Romans 8:31 Reflection
We’ve all had moments where we feel like the world is against us. Whether it’s an unexpected setback, a disappointment, or a failure — all of us have experienced days when it feels like everything is going wrong and no one has our back. We feel alone and helpless. But what if I told you that even in those moments, there is one who stands on your side? What if I said that God is always for you, no matter how dark the night may seem?
Romans 8:31 reads, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (ESV). In these words of Scripture, Paul reminds us that no one can stand against us as long as God remains by our side. No matter what challenges we may face in this life, God will never leave our side nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He stands ready to fight for us at any moment and to use His strength to overcome any obstacle before us.
No matter what happens around you or how strong the opposition may seem — remember that God is always for you! He stands by our side and gives us hope and peace during our darkest hours. He comforts and strengthens us with His promises (John 14:27), assuring that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
The Bible gives us many examples of God standing with His people.
Despite Pharaoh’s power, God showed Himself to be all-powerful. He delivered the Israelites from Egypt and the reign of Pharaoh. He brought about a series of plagues, parted the sea, and swallowed up their enemies. Through these extraordinary acts of power and deliverance, God showed His people that He was on their side and would never abandon them in their darkest hour.
Another instance where we see God standing with His people is during David’s fight against Goliath. Although Goliath was a giant warrior, David trusted in God rather than armor. Though the odds seemed stacked against him, David trusted in the Lord and won the battle—demonstrating once again that no matter how impossible a situation may seem, God is always fighting on our behalf.
We also read of Jesus’ miraculous raising of Lazarus from death to life (John 11). When Mary and Martha came to Jesus asking for Him to heal their sick brother, they had no idea what would happen. But through this act of healing and new life, Jesus revealed yet another way that He stands by our side—providing hope even in the darkest moments. This same hope is available to us today as we remember that no matter how seemingly hopeless our situation may be, God has promised us new life if we trust Him.
God’s presence does not mean trials will cease; He will be with you throughout each trial. No matter how difficult or lonely life may become, know that nothing can defeat the power of Jesus Christ, who lives in your heart (John 16:33).
Take comfort today in knowing that no matter how hard life gets — God is always for you!
In times of difficulty and opposition, it can be easy to lose sight of who we are and whose we are — but stay rooted in faith, knowing that while the world might reject or oppose you, God will never do so! It doesn’t matter if the world is against you—God is always working on your behalf. May this devotional remind you of His incredible promise in Romans 8:31 – if God is for you, who could stand against you?
