If you’re like me, two things more than likely dominate your social media feed Bible verses and people complaining about their lives. The funny thing is it’s often the same people. If you happen to be one of the many whose social media posts, appear to be coming from two different people I want to encourage you to read 2 Corinthians 5 and not just verse number 17 though that’s a great place to start.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Often people are trapped in an old way of thinking because they haven’t fully realized they’ve been made new.
You are not an improved version of your old self.
You are a new creation. Don’t bring the old you into the new year. Because you’ve been made new, you need to start living like you’re new. Stop living your life as if everything comes to an end when you breathe your last breath. Paul reminds us here in chapter 5 though our earthly body may be destroyed it is not our home. We have an eternal dwelling place. We must live our lives in light of this fact.
We tend to get so caught up in situational moments and allow those things to drive our thought processes. That’s an old way of thinking. That’s walking by sight, but Paul tells us in verse 7 we are to live by faith and not by sight. As a new creation, we should see things differently.
As a new creation, our desire should be different. Our focus should be on pleasing God and not our flesh – vs. 9. Allow the love of Christ to drive you to live a life for him. His grace is more than enough to enable you to overcome the fleshly desires of the old self. You’ve got a message to carry (vs. 20), but how useful is this message if you’re trying to deliver it through the old creation?
Walk in the promises of God. Scripture is not just words to fill your news feed, but instead promises that bring life!
You are new!
